Bespoke Cascade & Small Pond
DU Waterscapes were contacted to design and install a small pond with a large cascade waterfall feature in a newly created courtyard adjacent to an art gallery. One of the main reasons the client wanted a water feature was to mask the sound of the nearby busy road. The idea was to bring the courtyard to life, instead of a simple garden border and boring walls. The client wanted depth and dimension, something we endeavoured to create!
The clients had faith in DU Waterscapes and gave free reign to carry out the pond and waterscape construction.
Surveying the area DU Waterscapes found we were limited on the design due to a large sloping gradient. This did not phase us however, it was decided to create the pond first and work the feature around it.
The children had asked for goldfish, so we created a pond for around 5 of the little chaps, making sure they would have enough room to stretch out their tails!
With the steep gradient we had to hold back the soil above the pond, so a little retaining wall was created and the pond took shape. Next the wall was faced using natural, locally sourced stone, creating a climbing rockery which blended well with the rest of the garden.
The clay substrate was quite difficult to work with; however, we welcomed the challenge and created the channels for the cascade. DU Waterscapes had another plan up our sleeves and decided to build a little bit extra; we created a two tiered waterfall effect to make this a wonderfully magical and unique feature.
Hand-picked stones were then carefully placed to make this artwork blend seamlessly into its surroundings; plants were then carefully selected and artfully placed to the clients specifications.
Overall the clients were overwhelmed and incredibly happy with this one of a kind water feature!
